Procedure: How It Works

I started this project by creating an AI chatbot using Copilot Studio. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with customized chatbot development, both at work and for personal enjoyment.  For this particular project, I focused on building a learning-focused bot. 

To build this bot, I uploaded a knowledge file containing best practices for layered prompt methods. I programmed two topics for this bot. The first topic is concept demonstration and instruction. It walks users through a layered prompting method step by step. The second topic is about hands-on practice. Users practice writing prompts, test them, and receive immediate, customized feedback based on their input. 

To host the bot, I embedded it into an Articulate Rise microlearning course, adding a brief recap and a quick knowledge check to reinforce learning.

Background

AI is transforming workplaces, creating demand for training that helps professionals use these tools effectively.

In my current role as an Instructional Designer, I joined an innovation task force exploring cutting-edge training tools to modernize and enhance training, with a particular focus on AI tool applications.  I created an internal branding assistant bot that helps users quickly access our brand style guides. This work inspired me: AI tools can be more than just content development assistants—they can serve as personalized mentors, adapting to each learner in real-time.

This project was born from this idea. It is designed to simulate a friendly mentor guiding learners through learning, practice, and feedback—all within a single, seamless chatbot. This approach is especially well-suited for busy professionals who need to learn and apply new skills immediately, without having to switch platforms.

Reflection & Looking Further

This project only scratches the surface of what AI chatbots can offer. With the ability to respond in real time and adapt to individual learners, AI enables truly personalized learning experiences at scale.

The potential applications for AI-powered bots extend far beyond this type of prompt engineering course. For example:

• Dynamic Role-Playing & Scenario-Based Learning
  Learners can interact with AI personas that simulate real-world challenges—such as difficult clients, frustrated customers, or skeptical stakeholders—creating a risk-free opportunity to practice handling tough situations.

• Communication Skills Training
  Users can rehearse high-stakes conversations with AI and get real-time coaching. This includes feedback on tone, empathy, strategic pauses, and overall delivery.

• Immersive Language Practice & Personalized Writing/Speaking Coaching
  Learners receive tailored support and feedback in developing language fluency and communication skills, whether they’re working on business writing or casual conversation.
