Escape the Office Room
A Gamified VR-Inspired Interaction with xAPI Data Tracking
A Gamified VR-Inspired Interaction with xAPI Data Tracking
Audiences: Real estate agents who are learning about staging strategies
Tools: Articulate Storyline, xAPI, Scorm Cloud
Responsibilities: eLearning Development, Gamification Design, xAPI Set Up
Time Spent: 3 Hours
In real estate, the ability to stage a property effectively can make the difference between a quick sale and a missed opportunity. Traditionally, agents develop staging skills through job shadowing or static training materials. This proof-of-concept project, created for a pilot group in my role at a real estate company, explored how gamification, simulated VR experience, and data tracking can reimagine agent training—transforming it into an experience that is both engaging and measurable.
This short e-learning prototype, built in Articulate Storyline with a 360° panoramic environment, was designed as a digital escape room. Learners are “trapped” in an office and must explore the space, uncover clues tied to home-staging best practices, and solve knowledge checks to escape. They also navigate a staged virtual home, clicking through hotspots to discover practical tips and tricks.
This compact, interactive solution is easy to fit into a busy schedule while boosting learner engagement. To capture how users interacted with the escape room, I embedded xAPI statements at important clues and activities. These tracked actions, such as if the hints were accessed and if the challenges were solved, provide insights that inform future refinements.
Did you manage to escape the room? The video below reveals the hints.

This project demonstrated how gamification and immersive simulations can boost engagement while highlighting the value of xAPI tracking. As a concept prototype, it showed that instructional design can combine storytelling, gamified elements, and analytics to create both engaging and measurable learning experiences. With feedback and further data, future iterations could expand with more puzzles, layered clues, and adaptive challenges to increase both fun and instructional impact.
